In particualr these following ordonnances applied to any member of the French Infantry under arms. No one was exempt from the drill counter to what many believe (milice) The contents of first two ordinances specifically regulated the handlings of weapons and the method of exercise of the French infantry, including foreign units in French service (notably the Swiss, and Irish).

Clothnig & Equipement

The ordinances concerning the clothing & the equipment of the soldier are more difficult to obtain, and verify. Primary source material is not as easily available. Consult the bibliography page for a list of documentation sources.
